Joël Urruty resides in Western North Carolina. As a sculptor working in the abstract, he is inspired by the human form, architecture and nature. Sculpting in wood, bronze and stone, Joël creates elegant minimalist sculptures with a modern aesthetic. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Boston Museum of Art, Asheville Museum of Art and the Honolulu Museum of Art.
Joël Urruty holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from San Francisco State University and a Master of Fine Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Artist Statement
"My work is a study of form, line and space. I strive to create abstract sculptures that are visually appealing and evoke emotion."
Joël Urruty was born in San Francisco in 1968. The oldest son of Basque immigrants he went on to pursue studies in design, art and woodworking. He has been a working artist since 1997.
