Lonna Tucker is an American photographer, who lives and works in the desert Southwest. Lonna studied visual arts and art history at the Kansas City Art Institute and Wichita State University. Lonna's commercial photography career took flight while working as a photographer for Cessna Aircraft. During the next 10 years she traveled frequently across the West shooting aviation photography for aerial and ground beauty shots against scenic backgrounds. Seeing the landscape from above inspired her to relocate to Arizona, where she has pursued large format photography of the American West ever since.
Artist Statement
I have pursued photography for many years because it is deeply satisfying to me on a personal level. Clearly, photography has transformed and enriched my life. I work to create images that convey a study of contrasts -- the past revealed in the present, found organization within chaos, the power of the inconspicuous object. My primary purpose is to awaken a transcendent feeling of the subject I've photographed. In striving to be present in the moment, it is mood that always draws me in — the quiet time after dusk, the fog rolling in, reflected canyon light, the calm after a clearing storm.
